Bryson mayor elected to Nortex seat

Bryson Mayor Sheila Birdwell has been elected as Secretary of Nortex Regional Planning Commission for the next year. The Nortex Regional Planning Commission Executive Committee elected Birdwell as the commission secretary at its regular monthly Board meeting in September. 

Other officer appointments for the upcoming year include Quanah Mayor Dale Eaton as chairman, Montague County Judge Rick Lewis as vice-chairman and Wichita County Judge Woodrow Gossom as past chairman.  

Nortex Regional Planning Commission is a voluntary association of the local governments within an 11-county region in North Texas. Birdwell has been an active member of Nortex Regional Planning Commission representing the City of Bryson in the past. She has previously served as the chairman for 2012-13.

Nortex Regional Planning Commission administers programs for community development, services for the elderly, 9-1-1 planning, solid waste planning, law enforcement planning, economic development, homeland security, homeless prevention, etc. The commission controls and budgets approximately $11 million in federal and state programs on an annual basis within the region.
