BISD discusses One Act monument

Fri, 10/21/2016 - 4:35 pm

BRYSON – School board members here received details on a monument honoring the State Champ One Act Play students.

The two-piece monument is expected to cost about $1,800 and will be in the shape of the State of Texas with the names of the cast and crew engraved in it. Board members discussed where to put the monument and also whether to put in lighting and cameras to ensure vandals stay out of what is considered to be a darkened area near the auditorium.

Lancaster Memorials built the monument which should be ready for installation in about six weeks, according to an e-mail from the company.

Board members told Superintendent David Stout to continue working with the company on the project.

In other news, the board discussed installing awnings along the outside of the concession stand at the stadium because of water getting into the concession area when it rains.

“Even when the (concession) windows are open, rain is getting in there,” board member Clifford Smith said.

The conversation then drifted from awnings for the windows to covering the entire concession area, including nearby tables. Stout then mentioned poor drainage around the area near the track and looked for ways to alleviate it.

Board member Travis Thorne suggested changing the slope of the parking lot to get the water away from the track entirely and closer to the field house where drains exist. No action on any items was taken.

In his monthly report, Principal Eric Wilson said the school had a visit from a drug dog Oct. 4 and for the fourth straight time, the dog found nothing anywhere on school property.

Wilson attributed that to the district having good students and kids as a whole.

The board also moved its normal December meeting from Dec. 19 to Dec. 15. Stout said students get out for break on Dec. 16. The board also approved having its annual staff Christmas dinner on Dec. 8.
