Perrin-Whitt CISD swears in new school trustees

Fri, 11/18/2016 - 4:13 pm

PERRIN – Three new board members were sworn in to the Perrin-Whitt CISD Board during their regular meeting Tuesday night.

Newcomers James Hall, Linda Richardson and Darren Francis and incumbent Chad Lambert were sworn in to four-year terms with incumbent Mark Sims sworn in for a two-year term. Following the canvassing of votes, a reorganization of the board took place.

Chris Keeney was named president with Sims selected as Vice President and Janet Adair reelected as secretary.

Elementary Principal Amy Salazar gave an update of what had happened at the school. Field tdrips for third and fourth graders, a Veteran’s Day ceremony and the parent favorite Breakfast Buddies brought almost 200 people to the school gym.

Salazar said a Drug Awareness assembly was scheduled for Friday for third through sixth graders with the UIL District Meet set for Dec. 5-9.

Enrollment numbers for the school were given out by Superintendent Cliff Gilmore. Numbers were down slightly district wide from the end of school last year as the school dropped from 365 students to 363 overall. Only the junior high saw an increase from 54 to 59 students with slight declines seen elsewhere.

Attendance rates sat at 95.89 percent at the junior high/high school and 96.9 percent at the elementary school. Gilmore said those rates are important because they weigh heavily on Average Daily Attendance numbers which factor into state funding.

“They’re not bad but they could be better,” Gilmore said.

Board members approved the audit which was presented to them last month but not approved since it was inadvertently left off the agenda. The audit by Snow Garrett and Williams was “clean” but Gilmore reminded the board there were some things that could be improved on. Those included the bidding process, investment officer training and increasing the unfunded balance as the district needs to have three months of funding in its “rainy day” fund and was slightly short of that.

The board approved Tiffany Lambert as a community member on the School Health Advisory Committee and moved its December meeting from Dec. 20 to Dec. 13 because of the Christmas holiday.
