JamesRoySwan,age78, passed away from heart complications Monday, Dec. 25, at home in Jacksboro.

He was born Feb. 21, 1945 in Jack County, to J.W. and Eula Mae (née Mathis) Swan. He graduated from Jacksboro High School and Texas Tech University with a degree in agricultural economics. He and Linda Kay (née Bloodworth) Swan married in Jacksboro in 1966. The couple raised their family in Vernon and Iowa Park, before returning to Jacksboro nearly 25 years ago.

James Roy began his career as a claims adjuster for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance and opened the company’s first office in Iowa Park.

Soon after, he founded an independent adjusting firm in Wichita Falls, working for the nation’s largest insurance carriers and traveling throughout the U.S. helping people to recover from property losses after major storms and other natural disasters. In retirement he was a full-time rancher, putting to use his vast knowledge of agriculture and love of nature.

James Roy is survived by his wife, Linda Kay (née Bloodworth) Swan; children, Lana Smith (Wayne) and Tama Underwood (Andrew); grandchildren, Garrett Smith and Vivian Underwood; nephew, Roy Swan (Carla); niece, Beverly Wiggins (Mike); and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Duffy; parents, J.W. and Eula Mae (née Mathis) Swan; and his brotherin- law and sister-in-law, Charles Ray and Edwina (née Butler) Swan.
